This past week and weekend I took a much-needed blogging break. A chance to step away from the keyboard, reboot and spend quality time with my family. Although it's been 8 months since I've assumed my current role, it really hit me this weekend: I'm a MOM. My time was spent doing mom things, like figuring out my digital thermometer, making arrangements for a last-minute trip to the pediatrician because I thought my child was sick (he's fine), wrapping presents for and attending multiple children's birthday parties, crafting during naptime, attending a craft fair while the husband bonded with the boy, making numerous Target runs and cheering on my son as he inched ever closer to crawling. Forwards, that is. He can scoot backwards and pivot in circles like it's nobody's business.
I must also take a moment to reiterate how thankful I am for my cuddly, giggly and healthy baby. After watching the Stand Up 2 Cancer special this weekend and being so deeply moved by the stories of hope and determination of families that have been through hell and back yet still find the courage to fight each day, I realized that I could not ask for anything more than the health of my child.
So, yes. I am a mom. And I'd prefer a Friday night in with my boys, with a glass of wine and some nail polish over a night out any day...but I am still looking forward to my mom's night out this Thursday.
